One cloud suite built as a single system, against a portfolio of separate products assembled over decades, and what that difference costs a growing manufacturer.
Epicor is a long-established name in manufacturing software, and Epicor Kinetic is its ERP for manufacturers. It is also a product family shaped by its history: Epicor came to the cloud late, spent 2015 to 2019 rebuilding its three main products, and has grown largely by acquisition, so much of what it sells today is separate products and partner solutions connected by integration. Kinetic itself is aimed at manufacturing; distribution and retail are different Epicor products. NetSuite was built in the cloud as one suite on one database, with financials, inventory, manufacturing, CRM, commerce, and tax on the same platform, and it has been running that way, upgraded automatically for every customer, for more than two decades.
The short answer
Choose NetSuite if you want one system for finance, inventory, manufacturing, CRM, and commerce rather than a portfolio of products stitched together, plan to add channels, entities, or countries, want reporting your own team can change, and want upgrades handled automatically with customizations intact. Choose Epicor Kinetic only if you are a manufacturer or distributor that specifically wants to run an on-premises ERP and can carry the implementation, upgrade, and integration load yourself. That is NetSuite’s own position, and ours.

The part most manufacturers have not priced in
On January 7, 2026 Epicor set final on-premises release dates across its ERP line. If you run Kinetic on your own servers, your last release is already scheduled.
| Product | Final on-premises release | Active support ends |
|---|---|---|
| Kinetic (on-premises) | 2028.1, tentatively January 2028 | 31 December 2029 |
| Prophet 21 | 2028.1, tentatively May 2028 | 30 June 2029 |
| BisTrack Desktop | 2026.2, tentatively December 2026 | 31 December 2028 |
After those dates customers keep access to support but stop receiving hotfixes, regulatory updates and new functionality. Moving to Epicor’s cloud edition is a full implementation, not a version upgrade.
That changes the question. If a project of that size is happening either way, the comparison is no longer Epicor against the cost of changing systems. It is Epicor’s cloud against every other platform, at roughly the same effort and the same disruption. Migrating once is worth more than migrating twice.
Running BisTrack rather than Kinetic? The clock there is shorter. See NetSuite vs Epicor BisTrack.

NetSuite
Real-time GL, multi-book, revenue recognition, fixed assets, and OneWorld consolidation of local and international subsidiaries, automatic and included.
Epicor Kinetic
Financials adequate for a manufacturing company. Consolidation across entities is an extra-cost submodule with manual steps, and complex group or international structures are not where Epicor competes.
Where it lands: NetSuite for any group or international structure.
NetSuite
Multi-location inventory, bins, lot and serial control, landed cost, demand planning, and a native WMS with mobile execution.
Epicor Kinetic
Capable inventory and warehouse functions within the manufacturing context; distribution-grade warehouse operations point toward Epicor’s separate distribution products.
Where it lands: NetSuite for a company that manufactures and distributes on one system.
NetSuite
Work orders, multi-level BOMs, routings, WIP, and planning. Consule extends it with ProShop for formula and batch production, FactorySync for finite scheduling and shop-floor control, Project2Prod for project and engineer-to-order builds, and LumberSuite for wood products, all inside the suite.
Epicor Kinetic
Deep discrete shop-floor functionality, which is Epicor’s long-standing appeal: production, scheduling, and quality features built for job shops and discrete plants. Kinetic is manufacturing-only; process, batch, and distribution needs go to other products or partners.
Where it lands: Epicor is strong on discrete shop-floor depth. NetSuite with Consule’s products gives comparable depth for formula, project, and scheduling-driven production on a platform that also runs the rest of the business.
NetSuite
A full CRM sharing the customer record with quotes, orders, invoices, and cases, including marketing and CPQ.
Epicor Kinetic
Basic lead and opportunity tracking. Epicor customers commonly add a third-party CRM from the outset, with an integration to maintain.
Where it lands: NetSuite.
NetSuite
SuiteCommerce on NetSuite’s own records, or connectors to Shopify, Amazon, and BigCommerce.
Epicor Kinetic
Commerce is a separate Epicor product line. NetSuite’s own account of distributor E-Z LOK, which moved to NetSuite when Epicor could not support the ecommerce channel it wanted, is the typical pattern.
Where it lands: NetSuite, often decisively.
NetSuite
Hundreds of role-based reports and dashboards changed in the browser, saved searches, and SuiteAnalytics.
Epicor Kinetic
Many customers still rely on SQL Server Reporting Services or Crystal Reports, which means developer time for reporting changes.
Where it lands: NetSuite for reporting the business can change itself.
NetSuite
Clicks not code for administrators, SuiteScript for developers, customizations carried forward on every upgrade, and the SuiteApp marketplace.
Epicor Kinetic
A configurable platform, but customizations are a recognized upgrade risk, and a small ISV network means customers frequently build and maintain their own integrations.
Where it lands: NetSuite on both upgrade safety and ecosystem.
NetSuite
SuiteSuccess fixed-bid, industry-templated implementations by NetSuite or partners like Consule, with automatic upgrades.
Epicor Kinetic
Heavy implementation lifts are common, and upgrading heavily customized environments, particularly on-premises ones, is a project in its own right.
Where it lands: NetSuite for predictability.
NetSuite
A subscription covering the platform, modules, and users, with hosting and upgrades included.
Epicor Kinetic
License plus the products and partner solutions needed to cover CRM, commerce, tax, and consolidation, plus integration and upgrade labor. Ownership has changed hands several times through private equity, which shapes roadmap priorities.
Where it lands: NetSuite on total cost once the portfolio and the labor are counted.
NetSuite
Direct 24/7 vendor support and a dedicated account manager for every customer, plus Consule’s CARE program.
Epicor Kinetic
Vendor and partner support, with experience varying by deployment model and version.
Where it lands: NetSuite.
One system instead of a portfolio. NetSuite is a single multi-tenant platform. Epicor offers around eleven platforms, and many of the modules sold today were acquired or are powered by third-party vendors, which means integration to build and maintain. A Kinetic manufacturer that wants to add distribution or ecommerce is typically looking at another Epicor product, not another module.
CRM, commerce, and tax that are part of the ERP. NetSuite includes CRM, omnichannel commerce, and tax management natively. Epicor lacks native equivalents; Epicor customers often add a third-party CRM from the start, and commerce is a separate product line. NetSuite’s own account of distributor E-Z LOK, which moved to NetSuite when Epicor could not support the ecommerce channel it wanted to launch, is the typical pattern.
Consolidation without a submodule. NetSuite adds local and international subsidiaries with real-time, automatic consolidation. In Epicor, consolidation is an extra-cost submodule with manual work.
Reporting with clicks, not code. NetSuite ships hundreds of role-based reports and dashboards you change in the browser. Many Epicor customers still rely on SQL Server Reporting Services or Crystal Reports for the reporting they need.
Cloud that upgrades itself, and an ecosystem when you need one. Every NetSuite customer runs the same version, with customizations carried forward automatically. Epicor’s installed base still includes many on-premise and hosted systems where upgrades are projects and customizations are a risk. NetSuite’s SuiteApp marketplace has hundreds of certified applications; Epicor’s ISV network is comparatively small, so customers often build their own integrations.
Manufacturing depth from a partner who builds it. Epicor’s appeal has always been shop-floor functionality. NetSuite provides work orders, BOMs, routings, WIP, and planning natively, and Consule extends it inside the same platform with ProShop for formula and batch production, Project2Prod for project and engineer-to-order builds, FactorySync for scheduling and shop-floor control, and LumberSuite for wood products.
NetSuite’s own comparison puts it plainly: choosing NetSuite over Epicor is the right move for any business unless it is a manufacturer or distributor that specifically wants to run an on-premises ERP, and is prepared for the time and resource demands that come with it.
If that describes you, Epicor is a credible option. If it does not, the comparison is about which system lets the business change and grow without a re-implementation, and that is where NetSuite was built to win.
Want one system for finance, inventory, manufacturing, CRM, and commerce rather than a portfolio of products and integrations. Plan to add sales channels, subsidiaries, or countries. Want upgrades handled automatically with customizations intact.
Manufacture by formula, batch, or project and want that depth native to the platform through Consule’s products. Need reporting your own team can change without SQL or Crystal Reports. Would rather rely on a large partner and app ecosystem than build and maintain custom integrations.
Are a manufacturer or distributor that specifically wants to run and maintain an on-premises ERP, and have the IT resources to carry implementation, upgrades, and integrations yourself.
Epicor customers usually move when an upgrade has become a re-implementation, a new channel or entity needs a product Epicor does not have, or integration overhead has outgrown the IT team. Consule maps Epicor parts, BOMs, and routings to NetSuite, carries over open balances and master data, configures production and scheduling with FactorySync and ProShop where needed, and times cutover to a clean month-end.

Consule Solutions is a NetSuite Alliance Partner and Spotlight Award winner with a US-India delivery team focused on manufacturing and distribution. If you are weighing Epicor Kinetic against NetSuite, we will walk you through the comparison on your own numbers and processes, not a slide deck.
Whichever way you lean, ask both vendors to show these in a live demo rather than describe them.
Epicor customers usually move when an upgrade has become a reimplementation, a new channel or entity needs a product Epicor does not have, or integration overhead has outgrown the IT team. The project follows a consistent shape.
A single-site Epicor customer with clean data typically moves in a few months; multiple plants, heavy customization, or an on-premises estate add time, and Consule scopes the project before committing to a date.
Epicor Kinetic comes up most often in discrete manufacturing, particularly metal fabrication, machine shops and automotive parts. These pages cover what NetSuite does in the same settings.

NetSuite’s position, and ours, is yes for any business that wants to avoid difficult implementations, add-on solutions, customizations that break on upgrade, and reporting that needs code. Epicor’s remaining case is a manufacturer or distributor that specifically wants an on-premises system.
Not natively. Epicor lacks native CRM, ecommerce, and tax management compared with NetSuite; customers commonly add a third-party CRM from the outset, and commerce is a separate Epicor product. NetSuite includes all three in the suite.
Yes, through an extra-cost consolidation submodule with manual steps. NetSuite consolidates local and international subsidiaries automatically and in real time as part of the platform.
It is available in the cloud, and Epicor is moving customers there, but a large share of installations remain on-premises or hosted, and moving heavily customized environments forward is a recognized effort. NetSuite is multi-tenant cloud only, upgraded automatically.
Many Epicor customers still rely on SQL Server Reporting Services or Crystal Reports, which means developer time for changes. NetSuite ships hundreds of role-based reports and dashboards that are changed in the browser.
For discrete shop-floor manufacturing, Epicor has long-standing depth and that remains its appeal. Kinetic is manufacturing-only, so distribution, retail, process, and project needs point to other products or partners. NetSuite covers manufacturing natively and, with Consule’s FactorySync, ProShop, Project2Prod, and LumberSuite, matches specialized depth on a platform that also runs the rest of the business.
Yes. NetSuite has work orders, routings, WIP, and planning natively, and Consule’s FactorySync adds Gantt and calendar scheduling and capacity planning, while ProShop, Project2Prod, and LumberSuite cover formula, project, and lumber production, all inside NetSuite.
Epicor offers around eleven platforms, and covering finance, manufacturing, distribution, CRM, commerce, and tax typically means several Epicor or partner products with integrations between them. NetSuite covers the same ground as one suite on one database.
